BURNABY, B.C – July 9, 2024 – The Heights Merchants Association held its 2024 Hats Off Day Parade Awards Presentation this morning at Gulf & Fraser Credit Union. The event recognized the parade participants who excelled in categories such as Best Overall Entry, Best Engagement, Best Parade Theme, Most Creative, and Best Merchant Entry. The “Once Upon A Time” theme was well embraced and both the participants and the community had a great time.
A tradition every year since 1989, the parade showcases a lively march of diverse community groups. “Ever since we introduced themes for Hats Off Day, we have seen so much enthusiasm for making our parade feel and look a little bit different each year,” says Isabel Kolic, executive director of the Heights Merchants Association. “A friendly competition is a great way to spur on people’s creativity. This year’s winners really put in a lot of effort to stand out from the crowd.”
Parade entries are judged by judges from local community groups along the parade route. Categories, winners, and honourable mentions appear below.
Best Engagement: Metro Taekwondo Studio
Best Parade Theme: Eco-Sculpture Team – City of Burnaby; Lotus Sports Club (Tie)
