As a BIA (Business Improvement Area), we work hard to make sure our members (merchants and commercial property owners) feel supported and empowered to reach their potential.

Local Arts & Culture
Fine Art Murals
In 2002, the Heights Merchants Association began a fine arts Mural program. Since its inception, over two decades, we have commissioned 12 entirely unique art pieces by local artists on various outdoor wall spaces throughout the Heights. The result has been the creation of a beautiful collection of murals of all different sizes and styles for everyone to enjoy. Come visit, take a walk, and enjoy!
Neon Heritage
Years ago, the streets of the Heights were lined with bright, colourful, neon signage displayed proudly by the merchants of the area. In the past, neon lit signage was something the Heights was known for and a feature that made the area unique and memorable. While a few recognizable signs still remain, the HMA is working with the City of Burnaby to restore more neon signage. We encourage all our merchants to use neon to help bring our neon heritage back to life.
Arts & Culture
Various Burnaby Heights community groups work throughout the year to bring arts, cultural, and local events and festivals to the neighbourhood. The HMA proudly supports their work and helps them get the word out to the community. Check out the STRIDE Burnaby Arts Fest, Jane’s Walk, Garden Tours, and more! If you are interested in getting involved and helping with these events, reach out to the Heights Neighbourhood Association and North Burnaby Neighbourhood House.
Meet Our Merchants
Every merchant on the Heights has a story to tell. From immigrant entrepreneurs from many different countries, to second-generation business owners of family enterprises, to renegade entrepreneurs trying out new business concepts, they all have one thing in common: they are deeply rooted to, and committed to this community. Meet them here, and get to know the merchants of the Heights.
