In 1949, Maritime Travel emerged in Halifax and has since become one of Canada’s largest independent travel agencies. Lyn Hardman is the Branch Manager of the Burnaby Heights location. Because the owner of Maritime Travel has remained the same over the years, Lyn finds that “everyone is treated very well.” From employees to clients, it feels like a family.
Being a travel consultant can be a challenge at times. “Clients sometimes aren’t sure what they want and you have to know the right questions to ask them,” states Lyn. “This is ultimately the best tool we have and what sets us apart from “booking online”, to be able to provide them with the best customized trip.”
Aside from planning other people’s holidays, she plans her own as well. She has travelled all around the world, but her favourite place to travel to is French Polynesia, with Turkey as a close second. As a PADI certified diver, she is very fond of the ocean. French Polynesia’s crystal clear, blue waters are perfect for diving, snorkeling, and meeting underwater creatures you can’t find anywhere else. Historical architecture is also something she has a big interest in. Exploring the history of every destination she goes to is a must. Outside of Maritime Travel as her second job, Lyn is a 4 th degree Black belt in ITF Taekwon do, training, teaching and is a class B Umpire.
