Customers’ line up for Chez Meme’s authentic French breakfast and lunch, including fresh baguette sandwiches, homemade soups, and French toast brioche. Chez Meme Baguette Bistro is owned by husband and wife team, Ross and Isabelle Spence. Isabelle, originally from Brittany, France, met her husband, Ross, in France while he worked abroad at the finest French restaurants in Paris.
Isabelle and Ross moved to Canada together and had two children. They then decided to open Chez Meme Baguette Bistro on the Heights eight years ago, as Ross was born in Burnaby and was familiar with the shops in the area as a chef.
“What I love about [The Heights] is that if feels like a family,” says Isabelle who was attracted to the Heights’ small city feeling that felt similar to her hometown of Brittany, France. “We knew there was a sense of community here so we thought it would be a perfect fit for us.”
Isabelle welcomes everyone at the door with a friendly bonjour, and contributes to the bistro’s warm and charming atmosphere. When asked what it’s like to have Ross cook for her, Isabelle laughed and said, “I’m spoiled.”
Say bonjour to Isabelle and Ross at Chez Meme Baguette Bistro, open Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
