Fresh and friendly is a natural at Urban Seafood.
What's the Catch of the Day?
In November 2006, Urban Seafood made available to the public the kind of live, fresh and frozen seafood that their parent company had only supplied wholesale to lower mainland restaurants and supermarkets. Before this you had to choose between expensive quality products and mediocre affordable fare, but now you can have the best of both worlds at an accessible location.
Albert Hu, manager of Urban Seafood, would like it to be affordable to enjoy quality seafood everyday. "We take pride in our freshness, and we are competitive in our daily prices," he says. Be prepared to spend a few minutes in the store, however, because the tanks and displays are fascinating. Picking out live seafood ensures freshness and also adds a little exotic fun to a meal.
The store's unique product and commitment to friendly service is right at home in the Heights. "We picked the Heights to open the first store because the Heights is a friendly, cozy neighbourhood filled with other specialty stores like us," says Albert, who shops in the area as well. "The shopping experience is always pleasant. The staffs [of local stores] are always friendly and helpful. I can find things that I can't normally find in a regular chain supermarket."
This inclusive atmosphere, combined products available exclusively in the Heights, is part of what makes it a special place for businesses and their owners. In his spare time, Albert attends local events and festivals, and takes advantage of the multicultural flavours in the area. "I enjoy experimenting with different cuisines."
