Mabel and her husband, Woody, have been curling for over 50 years.

Hurry Hard! to Hastings for Curling and Lawnbowling Supplies

Mabel Wisniewski bought On the Rocks Curling Supplies six years ago, although the store has existed in one form or another for more than 40 years. "We are a destination location," points out Mabel. This is an understatement, as On the Rocks is the only freestanding curling and lawn bowling supply store in the Lower Mainland, their closest competition being in Kelowna.

Besides the easy-to-reach location, Mabel claims that the Heights, and the 4200 block especially, are "supportive, friendly and social," referring each other to customers and maintaining a tight network.

Though she lives outside the Heights, any small business becomes one's "second home" because of the amount of time and care that one puts into it. Due to the great location and supportive community, Mabel says, "I'm entrenched in the Heights."

This long-time curler also cites the importance of knowledgeable service as a pillar of success.  Mabel has competed and coached for more than 50 years, participating both out of a love for the game, and a need to keep up with the increasing pace and popularity.  In the past 10 years, things have picked up for as enthusiasm has grown and curling is now seen as a "science and a sport." On the Rocks Curling caters to this continued development.

Mabel encourages her customers and fellow merchants to check out the world of curling in all its forms, including the first major event in the season, 2on2 Wheelchair Curling, whose participants "more accurate than anybody" in the sport.
