Chevron Movie in the Park (August 29, 2010) Held on a crisp summer evening, Chevron presented Movie in the
Park, a community event that was held at Confederation Park. With more than 1,500 people attending, the event
featured family activities, food concession, and "How to Train your Dragon" on the
big screen. All monies collected from the food concession & HMA prize draw were donated to Burnaby Community Connections.
Mural Launch (August 11, 2010)
On Wednesday August 11, the HMA staff, along with friends, neighbours, and merchants, celebrated the unveiling of the newest mural on the heights. Mural artist Emily Zimmerman beamed as the community took in her beautiful artwork over cake and coffee. If you have yet to check out Emily's mural, it is located on the south side of the shopping complex on Willingdon Avenue, just south of Hastings.
Hats Off Day (June 5, 2010)
Hats Off Day took place on Saturday, June 5 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. along Hastings Street between Boundary Road and Gamma Avenue. Our streets were packed with families, friends, neighbours, and merchants! Hats Off Day is when the Heights merchants "take their hats off" to their community and their customers and the entire Heights community celebrates together. It's a huge, one-day extravaganza featuring a colourful main-street style parade with real local flavour, and a big street party afterwards.
Swinging Girl Celebration (May 6, 2010)
The HMA hosted a special ceremony on Thursday, May 6th to mark the long-awaited return of the Swinging Girl. The legendary sign, which marked the location of Helen's Children's Wear for more than 52 years, finally returned to the Heights after a 30-month hiatus. The Swinging Girl was recently designated a heritage landmark by the City of Burnaby and now sits atop Cioffi’s Meat Market and Gourmet Kitchen (4142 Hastings Street).
Chinese New Year on the Heights (February 20, 2010)
The Year of the Tiger was celebrated on Saturday, February 20th as the HMA rang in Chinese New Year on the Heights. Hastings Street came alive with music and dance as traditional lion dancers performed a special blessing to bring luck and prosperity to Heights merchants.
Light up the Heights (December 5, 12 & 19, 2009)
To kick-off the festive season, the HMA hosted a community Tree Lighting Ceremony at Heights Fountain Square on Saturday, Dec. 5 featuring sweet treats, family activities and photos with Santa. Then Light up the Heights took to the streets with strolling carollers and surprise visits from Santa on the two Saturdays leading up to Christmas.
Halloween on the Heights (October 31, 2009)
Halloween belongs in the neighbourhood, and nowhere is this more true than on the Heights. This year, more than 600 ghouls and goblins (with their parents in tow) enjoyed Halloween on Hastings Street. Be sure to join us next year for the fun but not too spooky Halloween on the Heights.

The event featured family activities, food concession and "Kung Fu Panda" on the big screen. This years event was a huge success, with more than 2,500 people attending. All monies collected from the food concession were donated to Burnaby Community Connections.
HMA Annual General Meeting (June 25, 2009)
The HMA's Annual General Meeting was held at La Villetta Ristorante where we were joined by our board of directors, merchants, and dignitaries. Stu Ramseyspoke about Transportation and the Heights. A lucky property owner left the evening with a fabulous door prize donated by a Heights Merchant. Everyone left with a full tummy from the delicious dinner and beverages provided!
The 2010 Annual General Meeting will be on Wednesday, Sept. 15 at 6 p.m. at Romana Pizza & Steak House (4660 Hastings). All Heights property owners and business owners are welcome to attend.
Hats Off Day 2009 (June 6, 2009)
Burnaby's favourite festival five years in a row was a grand success again this year, with crowds totalling more than 40,000. The parade, displays, merchant specials, music, live entertainers, and kids' activities were highlights. More than 100 vehicles participated in the Show & Shine, making it colourful and interesting for all. Come visit next year for an event that just keeps getting better!
