Sandie Bell is the owner of all things pretty in her studio here in the Heights. Her shop showcases 23 different local artisans and designers’ work alongside her own creative pieces. Growing up in the Lower Mainland, she started off her creative journey as a graphic designer and eventually decided to work for herself which led her to open L’Atelier Sandie Bell. With only high-quality products in mind, she hand-picks every piece in her store – jewelry, soaps, cards, mugs – sourced from suppliers or artisans that reflect the same approach as hers.
The shop has been doing well with the support of the neighbourhood and Burnaby’s large-scale events such as Hats Off Day, bringing in “good responses from everyone.” The Heights is a special place for Sandie because of the eclectic neighbourhood and artistic people who live in the area. “I am still learning what the neighbourhood likes and what they like to buy,” states Bell. “It’s a learning experience and a growing experience.”
L’Atelier Sandie Bell is not limited to selling products. She also holds workshops every Saturday, run by herself or local artisans, teaching how to make things such as melt and pour soaps, collages, jewelry, and more. She also holds private workshops for parties and showers through prior arrangements.
As a mother of two daughters and two dogs, much of her time is spent with them. However, when she does get a break, the artistic side of her professional work translates into her daily activities at home. In her spare time, Sandie likes to paint, take classes to improve her skills, and cook.
