Cristos Greek Taverna

Cristos Greek Taverna

When you first step into Cristos Greek Taverna, you immediately feel like you have been transported to a taverna in the middle of a bustling street in Greece. Beautiful antiques from Greece, like rustic urns, pots and authentic plates, fill the room.  The walls are full of interesting conversation topics, inviting diners to bring their friends and family for a memorable meal.

Wendy and her husband Niko have been in the restaurant and hospitality business for over 30 years now. Niko’s passion for Greek cuisine stems from his upbringing in Greece. With flavourful herbs, spices and fresh ingredients, Cristos offers authentic Greek cuisine and ambiance.

“Most people in Greece live in apartments,” explains Wendy, “they rarely live in houses, so most socializing happens in restaurants.” This explains the great ambiance at Cristos.

The Heights appealed to Wendy particularly because of its central location, making it accessible to people who live in Vancouver and Burnaby. She loves the neighborhood feel and sense of community that is prevalent when you walk down Hastings Street.

When Wendy and her husband are not working, they enjoy strolling along the seawall in Vancouver and taking in the views. They often travel back to Greece to see their family and friends, and to make sure they do not lose touch with their Greek roots, they attend local dances held by the Greek community.

Cristos Greek Taverna opens its doors to new customers who want a place that serves authentic dishes made from fresh ingredients. There is live Mediterranean acoustic music every Tuesday at 6 p.m., and they also offer special customized menus for parties and private functions. At Cristos Greek Taverna, Greek hospitality comes free of charge.

Cristos Greek Taverna is located at 4624 Hastings Street. For more information, visit www.cristos.ca, or call 604-299-0008.
